Consumers Energy Commercial and Industrial Demand Response Program
What is it?
- A program for businesses to earn bill credits by reducing energy use during peak demand periods ("Event Days").
- Helps reduce strain on the power grid and keeps electricity affordable for the community.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Consumers customer
- Must reach out to their representative to determine if their load with qualify
How it works:
- Enroll in the program and work with an Energy Solutions Manager to create a custom energy reduction plan.
- You'll be notified at least 30 minutes before an Event Day.
- Reduce energy use during Event Days (typically 11 am - 7 pm, weekdays, June-August, max 5 per year).
- Receive a report on your performance and get paid at the end of the season.
- Even if there are no Event Days, you'll still get the enrollment credit.
Benefits:
- Bill credits for enrolling ($25 per kilowatt of pledged reduction).
- Additional bill credits for successfully reducing energy use during Event Days (average of $11,657 in 2020).
Additional Details:
- Event Days are called due to high electricity demand and strain on the grid, often caused by extreme weather.
- Participation helps avoid the need to build new power plants.
